ATP has articulated the problems with Pakistan’s education policies and trends in the past (here, for example).
I recently came across this little piece published yesterday in the Pakistani newspaper The Daily Times and I thought this is a fit sequel to ATP’s concern on education.
Just one student in class 10
AHMEDPUR EAST: Only one student is studying in the 10th class of Government MC High School, Ahmedpur East, while 17 students are in the 9th class. The10th class student is studying science subjects but none of the other student in class nine is studying them.
The Govt MC High School was earlier run by the municipal committee and Tehsil Muncipal Administration and is now under the district government of Bahawalpur. Chaudhry Tariq Bashir Cheema, district nazim, Bahawalpur, inspected the school in 2001 and had promised to build a boundary wall for the school, but he did not fulfil his promise despite the lapse of five years. Educational circles have demanded the Punjab chief minister and the education minister to take notice of the situation.
Where do we go from here. Notwithstanding the progress that Pakistan has made in the recent years, its neglect of the education sector will have long term costs. Little wonder that the evident failure of formal school system is giving way to the proliferation of madrassahs. Southern Punjab has turned into a hotbed of sectarianism. A report on madrassahs aptly notes:
Ahmedpur East sub district is in the Province of Punjab in Pakistan, the region has gained notoriety for being hub of sectarian terrorism and violence.
We can only hope that this situation will change for the better!

when we will be able to compete others
i have been searching for way to express my self. there are many problems of college going students like the four year degree program for graguation is giving rise to over crowded institutes. one of the well known and reputed institude of the big city lahore is lahore college for women university, lahore that is neither providing exparienced professors to their management sciences students nor a good professional enviroment, not even a proper place to sit. bba ( hons) studens are sitting in backyard of it department along with an electricity generator,classes are going on in masjid no namaz facility is there,classes are even going on at play ground between all rhe noise sand disturbance.the student’s potential and efficiency is declining day by day. even a broad descending difference can be seen in their results. some immediate measure is required to be taken.

Now reader Akif Nizam sends me this news item about, what he calls, the “Pakistani college with the best student to teacher ratio.” According to Dawn: The Senate Standing Committee on Education and Science and Technology on Wednesday expressed concern over the teachers-students ratio at the Government College of Education for Women, Hussainabad. During their visit to the college, the committee members under the leadership of Senator Razina Alam Khan were told that the number of students had declined at the college due to long standing ban on appointment of teachers. According to a handout, the committee took serious note when it was told that the number of students was 52 and the college has a 25-member faculty. […]
I am glad there is at least a school. How do get students in that school now?
