Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has recently released the university rankings of Pakistan. The rankings are generating so much interest that I am receiving four to five emails daily with people forwarding me the same link to HEC’s ranking web page. (Scroll down to see rankings and details).
I am kind of disappointed with my alma-mater, NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi, ranked at number 10 out of the 13 Engineering Universities of Pakistan. The photo to the right-below shows few views of NED University.
I genuinely and of course with a little bias think that NED university should have been ranked among the top 3. When I make such claim; I do it on the basis of sheer engineering talent I’ve personally seen at NED. But rankings do not take into account the student talent. They look at finances, faculty, number of students etc. My university mates as well as the university officials have already started the discussion on how to improve the rankings next year. This discussion is going on at many NED online alumni groups. I am sure similar discussions are going on within other university alumni too. This I think, is a positive sign of publishing a list like this as it does create competition.

I think its the quality of the faculty that ultimately matters and not how much people are desperate to join the university. If COMSATS can maintain the quality of its faculty, which in Computer Science at least, is better than NUST and many others, then it would start making its mark.
which one is better for BBA fast or lahore school of economics…reply urgent
Comsats is not even considered in the normal universities because its merit is very very low and anyone can get admission there… the repute of the university depends on its merit and on that how much ppl are desperate to get admission there… Pakistan has no such ranking… talking about ranking than PMA (pakistan military academy would be in the bottom) but its the great institute in pakistan.
UET, NUST, GIKI, NED, SSUET, and those which has high merits are great institutes… rest of all are same..
Probably because Bahria University is just too weak academically to make a case. I don’t know about the Karachi campus but I have been to the Islamabad campus many a times. Things are really not good there. Specially the faculty is not good enough. But still it has become a norm in Pakistan that people think that every educational institution run by the military or its branches would be good. Which I don’t think is true.
If I talk of Computer Science, I rank both NUST and Bahria below LUMS, FAST, GIKI, and COMSATS, all of which can boast of much better faculty than NUST or Bahria.
Would you people tell me something about Bahria University Karachi, As it is NOT LISTED on HEC website.
Is it a Reccognized Degree awarding institution??
Why did HEC not even mentioned its name on their website??
Why is Bahria University TOO silent about the matter??
