(1) Parveen

This news appears in the daily Nawaiwaqt Lahore, and it talks about how singer Abrar-ul-Haq’s song titled ‘Parveen’ caused a verbal and physical brawl between two groups of people in the town of Pattoki. One group was playing this song loud and the other group didn’t like it too much as they had three women named Parveen living in their households.

(2) Khufia haath (The Hidden Hand)

I enjoyed reading this daily Jang Hyderabad news where a small time leader is blaming all ills facing our country on the ‘hidden hand’. This story is so ‘ghissi pitty’ (typical) that it makes me smile. I wonder who would fall for such wordings in the year 2007 anymore?

(3) 22 versus 2

This is a sad story from the daily Jang Faisalabad. 22 people gathered together to kidnap 2 lawyers. The reason was that 2 laweyers were involved in a car accident with one of the 22 kidnappers. While it is a sad reflection on the state of our society, the first thing that came to my mind was the mismatch in sheer numbers. What chance did 2 people have resisting 22. It also shows lots of unemployment where 22 people had nothing better to do than to take part in an organized crime.

(4) Animal Rally for Environmental Protection

I enjoyed reading this news from the daily Jang Hyderabad where cattle was also paraded alongside humans to protect environment. Thousands of cows, oxen, goats and sheep were paraded on the National Highway N5 which also blocked the traffic for some time. Among other things the human participants were also holding tree branches in their hands. It is unclear whether the branches came from the very trees this group was trying to protect from destruction. Cloth banners were also hanged on some of the animals taking part in this rally. Enjoy!
