Back on August 18, 2008 – right before Gen. Pervez Musharraf announced his resignation – we conducted an ATP Poll asking our readers what Pakistan would look like after Musharraf. Now, two months after the event, it seems like a good time to repeat the question. So, here is our new ATP Poll. Do tell us what you think? We have tried to match the wording of the questions to those asked last time so that one can have better comparison.

The results of our previous poll on the subject, were interesting, but not surprising.

Partisans on each side dominated the discussion, and the numbers (these are respresentative of no greater truth than the readership of this blog and the passions of those on any side).  Around a third of the respondents (34 percent) felt that things would generally become better; somewhat more (42 percent) felt things would generally get worse; some 22 percent felt that only faces will change and no other real change would materialize.

So, now that we have two months under our belt, what can we say? Or, and maybe, it is still too early to say anything? If so, we can always do this again in a few months and see how and if opinions change.

    Banker:

Musharraf came up with the money after a career cashing paychecks in the army and then as President. He was also paid for the book he wrote.

Musharraf’s house in no way compares to Surrey Palace or Raiwind. Musharraf also does not have dozens of others residences around the world, unlike Nawaz Sharif and Zardari.

In the name of democracy, you support liars, frauds, crooks and feudals. Your “democrats” destroyed the economy is six months because they have no policies, no vision and no decision-making whatsover. Pakistan is going to the IMF drip-feed, just like the 1990’s, just like when your “democrats” were in power.

To the others whining about judiciary, hey is your PCO Iftikhar Chaudhry back ??

  4. Channa Cholla says:

I think Musharraf and his stooge Shaukat Aziz should be put on trial for thief economic mismanagement and destroying the economy of the country

I am usually not the one who jumps in to defend this pathetic “democracy” that we have. But unfortunately there was no other option. After 8 years in power Musharraf had started acting more and more like a … dictactor. The sacking of the SC judges, the whole emergency enactment fiasco to name a couple of things. He really needed to go.

But alas it’s too fortunate the he was replaced with the likes of NS, Zardari and Gilani. Hindsight is always better, but we couldn’t afford more Musharraf years either.
