Adil Najam

After an intense, and sometimes tense, debate in Parliament, Asif Ali Zardari’s government has now promulgated the ‘Nizam-e-Adl’ regulation in Swat. The deal is now official. In this ATP Poll, we would like to ask you if you think that this deal will still be standing in 3 month’s time and, whether it would or not, who (government or Taliban) would be stronger?

There are, of course, other questions related to the Nizam i Adl deal. For example, will this spur more demands from other areas for similar regulations? Will this actally bring peace and justice to Malakand? What form of Shariah will actually be implemented? What effect will this deal have on the ruling coalition itself?

These, and other questions may not be part of the Poll – which focusses only on whether the deal will last 3 months and who will emerge stronger out of this at the 3-month mark. However, we hope that readers will discuss these – and any other – larger questions about just what the implications of this Nizam-i-Adl deal will be on Swat and all over Pakistan.

Listen rather READ, in meanwhile what do you think the Pakistan ARMY, the Public, the political parties will do in three months?

Do they give them full authority to do what they want?

Dear sometime you have to do such things to keep the other parts intact and mean while in breathing taken time should be prepared if something goes wrong. This is duty of all of us.

Always preparation of war has been done in Peace Time.

When we have army of more than million, air force and blaa blaa what for these are made and had been for?

So have confidence in you, your Nation and Army, hamdulillah they are very much capable to do the given JOB, won’t let you down this time (once had been happened because of some polotical tricks by our then Political Powers).

Innallah ha Ma asSabereen, Take care and Think POSITIVELY.

“Its not matter of winning or loose, the main thing is the peace has been restored at SWAT.”

I would love to believe you brother, but I have a feeling that these guys are not going to suddenly throw their arms and go home and live peacefully for the rest of their lives.

That didn’t happen when the Soviets left Afghanistan, surely will not happen now that the army has sheepishly surrendered.

I think it is ok but if both parties government and taliban respect each other.the taliban if follow the exact principles of islam it will be bloody brilliant but if not it will be bloody reverse impact.there are twoi extreme positions 1)extremly impressive law if followed exactly 2) and extremely -ve impact

i wish that it successful so that public get relief.
if we look to roots the government is responsible for the situation because why govt ignoring such areas in education specially higher eduction like universities etc which is the only thing that people become socialize and able to differentiate between bad and wrong . but now situation is out of control thats why it happend. still more focus needs for updateing of education.

This surely be remembered as a golden day in the history of pakistan. Message goes to the world that how sane and peace loving people pakis are and going to spread the harmony across the world with this deal. As rightly the foriegn minister said yesterday in tokyo where he went to collect some aid that pak democracy is the example to the muslim world.

One thing is quite apparent in all of this to me.

Our beloved Army\Intelligence apparatus has failed or let us down big time. I hate to admit this but I think Army and Intelligence are in bed with our FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE.

During the 90s the Army fought the secular MQM led insurgency and successfully dealt with all the lungras, kuntutas and commandos of MQM, because the people supporting MQM were “traitors”. Citizens of Karachi paid a heavy price for that operation but the operation still went on despite all their miseries. How many people disappeared during that operation? How many people died in the encounters?

Its totally different ball game now when it comes to religion obsessed, murdering mullahs. The army either does not have the stomach or the will to confront these horrible monsters created by Zia. That’s why an extremely secular party like ANP had to bit the bitter pill, cause army\intelligence performance was just shockingly incompetent and left them with no choice.

Lets be realistic here the real culprit is the army\intelligence and security apparatus of Pakistan here. The Govt., if they have the guts, should ask the army to prepare a report as to what went wrong there.

If people of a region want to keep their freedom and way of life, then they will have to pick up the guns and confront these brutal mullahs on their own, cause the state aint coming to help.
