Owais Mughal

I am sure many of our readers will get it right away but for some ‘shehri baboos’ like me, it will be a challenge to figure out what’s cooking. I admit that I could not guess myself, until I read the caption that came with the original photo. Answer to this quiz will be revealed in comments below a little while later.

Gur in Urdu and Gura in pashto as we cook it in our village in Mardan. Mughal it’s very difficult to make “chakay”[pieces] from the boiled juice. The villagers should be admired for doing such difficult job.

But why are they doing it in open air? can anyone from punjab enlighten me on that?

Hehe… what’s interesting is that your recommended reading of Marijuana brought back memories of seeing Hashish being prepared in roughly the same way near Charsadda. Although that has a much darker brown tint to it.

Hi, I think it is sugarcane’s “RUS” also called “KAAT” to make desi sugar. It is indeed very delicious and yes all the “Shehri Baboos” should try it.

    Regards,
