A series of explosions and blasts have been reported in Karachi in and around various military installations, including the Mehran Naval Aviation base. Multiple explosions were reported from the PAF area near Shahrah-e-Faisal in Karachi. Flames from within the Air Force compound have been shown on television and reportedly some of the attackers are still inside the military compound where fighting continues.
Details remain sketchy and continue to evolve by the minute. Meanwhile, some are already calling this a “Mumbai-like” operation with choreographed multiple points of attack and mention is being made of possibly hostages being taken within a particular part of the compound.
According to Dawn:
Several explosions have been heard near the PAF Museum on Dalmia Road in Karachi. The force of the blasts have shattered the windows of surrounding buildings, reports said. Heavy gunfire was also reported after the explosion. An eyewitness said that the blasts took place near the gate of Faisal Base.
A large fire and a thick cloud of smoke has also been reported. Police have sealed the area. “We are trying to check the cause of the blast. I cannot say,” said a senior police official. Another police official said gunfire was also reported from inside the base, Reuters reported. “Several blasts were heard inside, the firing is still continuing,” Aslam Khan, a senior police officer at site told AFP.
According to The News:
Four people were killed in an armed attack Sunday by terrorists on PNS Mehran, a heavily guarded base of Pakistan Navy, located along Sharea Faisal, according to a foreign news agency. TV images showed flames rising in the air from PNS Mehran where terrorists blew up a US made P-3C Orion plane of Pakistan Navy.
Five injured in the incident were shifted to a local hospital. Additional personnel of security forces were also seen moving inside PNS Mehran. Electricity of the entire area has also been shut down. Earlier, four blasts were reported from the area near PAF base Faisal.
Ambulances and fire tenders were seen rushing toward the base following the powerful blasts that were heard across a wide radius. Gunshots fired from sophisticated weapons were also heard following the blasts. It is pertinent to mention here that in the previous weeks three buses of Pakistan Navy had been attacked by terrorists in the metropolitan city of Karachi.
@Azhar
And what are you babbling? Indians are supporting anti-Pakistan elements, including TTP. And how come India is the main target of Pak Taliban? They didn’t launch any attacks there. Even the Mumbai attack, if we assume it was not an inside job, was conducted by LeT, which is not Taliban.
Pakistani TV channels have shown the pictures of dead terrorists and they do not resemble the Taliban. They were dark complexioned, clean-shaved, and had a military build. Looks more like Indian-trained to me.
Everything changed back when “Khuda Hafiz” became Allah Hafiz, Inshallah, subhan allah, mashallah became part or every other sentence, beards turned pretty human faces into wild animals, miswaak became the status symbol….just giving my two cents!
Lalitji,
There you go again, typical Indian line. Even if a dog dies in Pakistan you guys find a way to blame partition for that. Just imagine this Indian proverb “In France you will find French, in England you will find Britons, in US you will find Americans, but in India you will only find Punjabis, Biharis, Gujratis etc. but no Indians. The only time Indian nation comes into existence is when there is a stupid cricket match against Pakistan”. It is the hatred of Pakistan that has kept India together.
Friends,
Frankly speaking I wouldn’t be surprised if India is behind the whole TTP fiasco. They gain most by any Pakistani misfortune.
“”May Allah Bless Pakistan.””
Allah blesses only those who bless themselves!!
That is why, so far Allah is blessing the terrorists!!
As somebody concluded “No common Jihadi can carry out this attack.” so it must be India. This is a great chance for Pakistani government to unmask the shady activities of Indians. If India is indeed involved, Govt of India should definitely pay for the repercussions. Carefully cultivated PR image of that country will come crashing down. Let Pakistani govt. conduct judicial investigation/or with UN or international agencies and come up with a white paper on this incident. People like “Arundati Roys” and other TV media vultures will ensure the collapse of the government. Just go ahead without fear.
It is surprising to know that extreme right wingers are over estimating the capabilities of good for nothing RAW. Collapse of Pakistan will be suicidal for India and to some extent for China. Manmohan Singh clearly knows this. Pakistan cannot fight this terrible terror war alone. The present generation is paying for the foolishness of the past generation. One of the keys to Pakistan’s liberation is in the hands of Saudis as only they can take back the genie that they let loose for whatever reasons. US ( the real monarch of Saudi Arabia) should do at least one favor to their war on terror ally.
