Adil Najam

For all of those, me included, who wondered what a 7-star hotel looks like; this is it.

To find out what it feels like, you will have to wait an indefinite amount of time until this surreal StarTrek-like structure actually comes about in Islamabad. Will it? And if it does will it really look like this!

This would have made a great photo-quiz had written about the hotel a few days ago, had Asma not already posted the URLs to these pictures as a comment on that post, and had these pictures not been flying around in all sorts of emails from Pakistan. Despite all of the above, I thought they would still make a great post; maybe some of the koolness will rub off on the site. And I am sure the builders could do with some more free publicity.

Plus, as regular readers know, I have a thing for pictures with tullas (cops) in them (see here, here and here). And this one - even though imaginary - has that traffic cop perched right in the foreground. By the way, don’t miss the helicopter hovering above (near the helipad) either!

I am not sure we need any more discussion about whether this hotel is a good idea or not. But what about the design? Is this eye-candy or eye-sore? Will this really take us to the ‘next frontier’ (apologies for the pun)? Does this look more like ‘heaven on earth’ or ‘pie in the sky’?What do you think?

    Dear All,

Greetings! I have read all of your comments guys(pro’s & con´s)about the 7 star hotel. I, as a foreigner, would be delighted to visit this special building (if only to have a cup of tea, as Ahmed said). Most of your opinions are valid, but there has to be a middle-point, and I, as a potential tourist, would not be critizicing this avant-garde structure nor comparing it with the rest of the city, or say it is too high for the surrounding area, etc. etc. NO. I would just see it and admire its originality. Think. That is what originality means: nothing like the rest. Ppl, someone has to start something, and, as some said, this mite be the beginning for something even better! Think big. I wish investors from your area would set eyes on my country. Because this is what we need, investment, more jobs for the people to stop immigration of poor ppl to developed countries, cutting-edge technology… THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS. BLESSINGS.

I am surprised people actually think this is going to happen.

Wake up. This was just a land grab deal.

This is quite an ugly design and certainly will look out of place in Islamabad because it does not fit with the architecture of the city.

[...] There has been, of course, much fanfare about the Centaurus 7-star Hotel project in Islamabad, and I remain skeptical about the hyperbole accompanying these projects until I actually see them completed. I will reserve my comments on the trumpeted building itself until I see actual plans and designs for it and until it actually materializes in reality. One has heard of too many such grandiose projects that never transpired to get all excited about them just yet. [...]

    Hi Guys

I have read the comments about the 7 star hotel in islamabad and sorry to say everyone has commented against it. That is our badluck that whenever something constructive going on we people oppose it because opposition is the easiest thing what we can do.

    Thanks
