Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has recently released the university rankings of Pakistan. The rankings are generating so much interest that I am receiving four to five emails daily with people forwarding me the same link to HEC’s ranking web page. (Scroll down to see rankings and details).

I am kind of disappointed with my alma-mater, NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi, ranked at number 10 out of the 13 Engineering Universities of Pakistan. The photo to the right-below shows few views of NED University.

I genuinely and of course with a little bias think that NED university should have been ranked among the top 3. When I make such claim; I do it on the basis of sheer engineering talent I’ve personally seen at NED. But rankings do not take into account the student talent. They look at finances, faculty, number of students etc. My university mates as well as the university officials have already started the discussion on how to improve the rankings next year. This discussion is going on at many NED online alumni groups. I am sure similar discussions are going on within other university alumni too. This I think, is a positive sign of publishing a list like this as it does create competition.

    Dear Farhan,
NEDUET was ranked 11th in this ranking… no regrets, this list shows how bribe has been given to HEC for such damn ranking. Mehran university…. the worst one has been ranked 5th… NEDUET and DUHS are the two best universities of Engineering and Health sciences respectively and everyone admits that. so u be happy with ur ranking but value of students of these institues has not changed a bit by this fake ranking.

I m glad to see the ranking of the engineering universities of Pakistan, I would appreciate the efforts of the HEC which bring out the realistic listing, I ve seen a few students of NED arguing this list, but for their information i would like to add that they should see the HEC official website which clearly indicates the criteria of ranking.
The guy from NED has posted few snaps showing different views of versity building I claim that even looking the pics Mehran could be awarded first rank but my dear merit is some thing else and those who has made this ranking are renown scholors of Pakistan, so first go and get the knowledge about the ranking criteria and then comment.
    thanks and regards

I don’t find any reason why UET Lahore is pushed down. Currently im doing Master’s in Technical University Munich (essentially the top merit univesity in Germany), and if you consider students from Pakistan, you’ll find 99% of the grad students which are from UET Lahore.

I personally believe that rankings mentioned there are not realistic.
