It’s a positive development, and the good thing is the way all political parties have worked together on it. Having said that, the repeal of the clause requiring parties to hold internal elections is a blot on what is otherwise a good news.
Now that this amendment is out of the way, hopefully we (especially the media) can focus on the real problems of the people.
This is a great achievement for the country; Raza Rabbani and his team deserve congratulations for the services they have rendered.
Maybe, for once, our pseudo-intellectual elites will begin to give credit to the PPP; it has many flaws, yes, but with the restoration of the judiciary, eventually backing down from every confrontation with it, and now with this wing-clipping job, the party that gave Pakistan its constitution in the first place, has now restored it.
Without any doubt the constitutional package is historic piece of legislation. However we now need to move towards more pressing issues such as formulating a comprehensive strategy to fight terrorism. The promulgation of National counter terrorism authority is the first step; the NACTA must also be empowered to take concrete steps for countering terrorism.
While All Things Pakistan has remained alive and online, it has been dormant since June 11, 2011 - when, on the blog's 5th anniversary, we decided that it was time to move on. We have been heartened by your messages and the fact that a steady traffic has continued to enjoy the archived content on ATP.
While the blog itself will remain dormant, we are now beginning to add occasional (but infrequent) new material by the original authors of the blog, mostly to archive what they may now publish elsewhere. We will also be updating older posts to make sure that new readers who stumble onto this site still find it useful.
We hope you will continue to find ATP a useful venue to reflect upon and express your Pakistaniat. - Editors
