I have chosen following four Pakistani songs to go with the weekend today.

(1) Title: hum chale to hamare
Singer: Alamgir
Movie: jageer
Musician: Nisar Bazmi

I believe this was also the first movie song by Alamgir. Nisar Bazmi is credited for chosing him for this song. I have childhood memories of listening to this song on our home radio.

The ‘Good’:

A small news item appeared recently in Dawn which captured the imagination of quite a few people. The Central Development Working Party (CDWP), a constituent of Government of Pakistan, on September 17, 2008, approved 51 development projects and among them was also included the approval for Karachi Circular Railway.

The ‘Bad’:

On September 23, 2008 another news made it to Dawn that put reality back to the forefront that project still needs approval of Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) and so far it is not even on their agenda to discuss.

Despite this hurdle, I am still staying positive because this project was all but dead since 2006. Atleast we have now moved a step forward.

Adil Najam

I do not think that I am the only who who has been quite stunned by the near-total radio silence from Gen. Pervez Musharraf since he was forced out of the President’s office.

Of course, one realizes that he has probably been advised – maybe ‘told’ – to keep a low profile by the military itself. Possibly, that was part of the unstated ‘deal’ that led to his resignation. Moreover, one must confess, that given all the passions he can still ignite amongst his detractors as well as his supporters, it is probably a good think that he has kept a low profile. Pakistan is already too traumatic a place. There is already “too much news” in Pakistan as it is. A little quiet from the Pervez Musharraf front is, therefore, probably good for the general and good for Pakistan too.
