Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has recently released the university rankings of Pakistan. The rankings are generating so much interest that I am receivng four to five emails daily with people forwarding me the same link to HEC’s ranking web page. (Scroll down to see rankings and details).
I am kind of disappointed with my alma-mater, NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi, ranked at number 10 out of the 13 Engineering Universities of Pakistan. The photo to the right-below shows few views of NED University.
I genuinely and of course with a little bias think that NED university should’ve been ranked among the top 3. When I make such claim; I do it on the basis of sheer engineering talent I’ve personally seen at NED. But rankings do not take into account the student talent. They look at finances, faculty, number of studetns etc. My university mates as well as the university officials have already started the discussion on how to improve the rankings next year. This discussion is going on at many NED online alumni groups. I am sure similar discussions are going on within other university alumni too. This I think, is a positive sign of publishing a list like this as it does create competition.

in this ranking, you just included public sector universities accept GIKI.Why there is no ranking for private sectors.I am Ibrahim from UMT [University of management and technology] Lhr.In UMT,there is well equipped labs, high speed IPC [information processing centre
FAST is also known as National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (NUCES) or just NU. Its 7th in all Pakistan Engineering ranking and that can be checked at http://www.hec.gov.pk/QualityAssurance/Ranking_lis ts.htm
NU-FAST is only 7 years old and its still progressing. I hope it will rise to the top soon.
Sir Syed University Is Best In Pakistan
i think khyber medical college and engnreeing university should also be include in this ranking .these two are playing very important roll in higher education.
I dont accept the ranking. All the talented Engineers of pakistan belongs to uet peshawar and its missing from the top rank list .If the only thing you count for ranking is the building then why dnt u provide sufficient funds to improve the structure.I dont think UET taxila is better then UET peshawar.

After reading the reply from Mr. Ahmed, I now concur that the rank list was furnished in a good spirit. Insha-Allah, in the future, the ranking should focus more and more on scientific discovery and the schools contribution to the society as a whole.
Universities should also be judged by the caliber of their faculty training, ranking of their incoming class, and places where their graduates find jobs. In this spirit, the universities will also compete to get the best and most serious students from the applicant pool. They will also focus more on the strengths of their curriculum, experience of their faculty and leadership of their administration.
This ranking system, will one day insha-Allah, revolutionize the attitudes and cultivate a spirit of teaching and innovation while bringing pride and a sense of purpose back to our education system. This will, undeniably, nurture and groom our future educators, health care professionals, lawyer, engineers and beyond.
In short, I believe this is a good start and we should commend the HEC for their efforts.
Thank You
