Adil Najam

Following the targeting to Aaj TV station during the May 12 riots in Karachi, Gen. Pervez Musharraf gave an exclusive long interview to Talat Hussain and Aaj, much like he had given an interview to Geo after the attack on Geo. Here is a how it went.

Thanks to Saad for putting this on YouTube and sharing.
Adnan,

I was going through various newspapers on the website this morning.

The signals emanating from the Supreme Court are that it is most likely that the references against CJP are going to be thrown into the dust bin.

I hope the justice will prevail. CJP will be restored.

What will happen afte that, it is worth discussing.
Even more ominous signs (for the government) are coming today, as I gather from the latest Geo news and urdupoint.com. Too bad the proceedings are not shown live on TV.

Musharraf recently issued the threat of an extra-constitutional step to stay in power.
Don Corleone (Godfather) said that only weak men make threats. I don’t think he’ll have many options except to retreat.

Musharraf has also been making a lot of uncharacteristically idiotic statements e.g. “uniform is like my skin”, “I am more dear to God than Nawaz Sharif because the doors of Holy Kaaba were opened for me and not for him”, “I will cry if falsehood succeeds against the truth”. This clearly shows you the mental state he is in.

Dawn covered the above story too.
Referring to Ms Rice’s first trip to South Asia in March 2005 during which she also visited Pakistan, the author writes: “Yet, when Rice sat down with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, who fancied himself a ladies’ man, Aziz puffed himself up and held forth in what he obviously thought was his seductive baritone. (He bragged – to Western diplomats, no less – that he could conquer any woman in two minutes.)

“(He tried) this Savile Row-suited gigolo kind of charm: `Pakistan is a country of rich traditions,’ staring in (Rice’s) eyes, a participant at the meeting recalled.

“There was this test of wills where he was trying to use all his charms on her as a woman, and she just basically stared him down. By the end of the meeting, he was babbling.

Talking of Mushi, his assistant our beloved Prime Minister appears to have qualities of his own. Here is an interesting post by backpacker on IMB; http://islamabad.metblogs.com/archives/2007/05/oop s_1.phtml

Seems all our current leadership from Big Hand, to Gult Biyani, to Mushi to Shortcut Aziz are in a class of their own. We are truly blessed to have them.

    Adanan,

I think they will never quit.

In fact they are thoroughly confused what to do?

While in the government they had, apart from their own terror strength, they had state machinery under their command particularly in Sindh. It is very difficult to understand how Altaf Hussain is living like a Don in London which is one of the expensive cities, we all know. The legend has it, these ministers in the cabinet and his excellency Esharat have been ferrying brief cases to him.

If they quit the government, they will openy revert to thier terrorist activities. They will openly start extorting money from people of Sindh etc.

I sincerely hope that they leave the government so that someone with a tiny conscience will open up the files and investigate the events of May.

The one change is welcome. That change is a definite lack of fear of this mafia in the heart of the media. The electronic media has done a marvellous job to expose them. I hope they will sustain this policy of telling truth in black and white.

There are 90% chances that MQM will quit the government. all the 3 options, quitting Ministries, quitting NA and PA seats and sepration from Govt and sitting in opposition benches.
