Tamashbeen

Not the best rendition of Waris Shah’s Heer that I have ever heard. But one of the most captivating nonetheless!

The singer is one, Anita Lerche, from Denmark, who has found a niche market in singing Punjabi songs – mostly for Punjabi Indian audiences – in her Danish accent.

I suspect Punjabi Pakistani audiences will also find her entertaining for the same novelty value.

It’s fascinating to see Anita Lerche bring the timeless Heer tradition into a Danish context. Her connection to Pakistani music highlights how Punjabi folk stories can resonate far beyond their place of origin.
