Adil Najam

This is absolutely hilarious; and in a thoughtful and thought-provoking way.

Even if you are one of those people who never click on these YouTube clips, make this one an exception. It is really worth a listen. Take my word for it.

‘Hum sab umeed say hain’ is clearly a leader amongst a new breed of television comedy skit shows - edgy, young, political, and irreverent (‘Four Man Show’ is another one). Its no ‘Fifty Fifty’ yet, because it can be erratic in quality, but its best stuff is as good as anything anywhere in this genre of political satire. And this song is amongst the best.Produced for its March 23 special show, this is a poignant and hard-hitting spoof on the all-time classic national song:

Aao bacho sair karaiN tum ko Pakistan ki
Jiss ki khatir hum nay dee qurbani laakhouN jaan ki

I was immediately taken by both the visuals and the words. Using young school kids to convey the satirical message is powerful, and the words cut deep and hit hard. Here are some examples:

On Punjab:
Yahan police aur Qaf-Leauge nay har leader ko ghaira hai
Dour dour tak thakh baithi hai siyasi bradraan ki
Jiss ki khatir hum nay dee qurbani lakhouN jaan ki

On Sindh:
Daikho yeh hai Sindh, yahaN Arbab kay danka bajta hai
Laikin yahaN pay Adar (Order) aur kisi ka chalta hai…
Yahan pay taqat daikhi hum nay dahi say zada paan ki
Jiss ki khatir hum nay dee qurbani lakhouN jaan ki

On Balochistan:
Paani hai na biji hai na hai hifazat jaan ki
Jiss ki khatir hum nay dee qurbani lakhouN jaan ki

On NWFP:
Yeh Sarhad hai iss may MMA ka kaafi zor hai
Mousiqi pay pabandi hai, bass Hasba Bill ka shor hai…
Yahan pay klashinkov bhi milti hai qeemat meiN naan ki
Jiss ki khatir hum nay dee qurbani lakhouN jaan ki

As the kids say at the end, Pakistani Zindabad! :-)

    Mahi,
You are most welcome here and you should know that PMA like behaviour is quite common on net from both sides. And when I was telling about who copied what, I just wanted to know more about the makers of songs we all love, not at all in the essnce of who is better. And I , and I guess most of the people here, took your comment in the same spirit. So we have amanat ali and india does not, but how will we divide bare ghulam ali khan between us.

    awesome,
lyrics are well written and choreography has enhanced the effects of lyrics even more.
    nice work.

Disciple, thanks. I’m sure I’ll find it somewhere on the web.

PMA: Why are you clubbing all Indians together? Did I say anything above to spoil your moment? I dont give a damn who copies what. I hang on the blog to get to know more about your country. I sometimes get the feeling its almost a crime.

Why is that no matter what subject, what topic regarding Pakistan and Pakistaniat, here at ATP folks end up bickering about Pakistan vs. Hindustan. What does India has to do with this site. Could we just stay focused on Pakistan, the subject of this site. After all this site is about “All Things Pakistan”. Who stole what song from whom. Indians blatantly and regularly steal from Hollywood. Who cares. To Indians on this post: Please leave us alone. Go some place else. Allow us to have a “Pakistani Moment” by ourselves.

PS: Search on the internet and you may find a copy or at least an online listen.

I think a version was even sung by Pakistani group JAL while in India.
Disciple…whats the Indian copy of Dil Dil Pakistan? I’m a big fan of that song, and would love nothing more than an Indian version :)
Dil Dil Hindustan…I am surprised you haven’t heard of it.. :)

This whole discussion about who copied whom seems a little childish. Enough has been copied by each of others. It tells us less about the song and more about our bickering.

Another early age patriotic song copied by indians was “toufan se laye hain ham , kashti nikal ke”.

I wish though that Pakistan had copied ” nanha munna rahi hoon, desh ka sipahi hoon” . I love that one. specialy the part

Naya hai zamana nai hai dagar, Bharat ko banaon ga machinoon ka nagar, bharat na ho ga kisi se kam, age hi age barhaoon ga qadam. quite progressive :)
