The video to the right is from BBC urdu and is making runs on Internet these days. It shows the Independence Day events of August 14, 1947. One can see rare glimpses of people and events here including Mr. Jinnah, Lord Mountbatten, Liaqat Ali Khan, Fatima Jinnah, Lady Mounbatten etc.The video does not have any audio. I wish there was some sound to it too.Other historic videos of 1947 and Pakistan’s creation can be seen in earlier ATP posts, here and here.

Can ATP put all the different videos from 1947 that you have featured in one place that is easy to find.

    — woh ajeeb log woh qaaflay,
jo na bhatak sake jo na rukk sake
jo chaman saja ke chale gai
hamein yaad hain, hamein yaad hain-
woh tamaam din, woh tamaam ghumm
jo guzar gai, hamein yaad hain.

The above is an extract from a poem by Jamiluddin Aali.

    Thank you Asma Mirza-
It seems you have access to such treasures we would like to copy in our computers and show it to our children.
Why can’t this be sent to youTube or other places.
    WE download songs etc-
WE should download this in our mobile phones as my mobile screen in the beautiful fluttering Pakistan flag.
    Thank you Asma,
    Sincerely
    Naseer

  5. Thanks Asma for sharing this very precious and invaluable video. Mountbatten had earlier vitiated the atmosphere by his indecent insistence of being the first Governor-General of both India and Pakistan. It goes to the credit of both Mr Jinnah and Mountbatten that they gave very little reflection of their true feelings for each other and carried themsleves with dignity.

I wonder why such films are not in our own archives. It is essentially our history too, and I am sure BBC will not turn down an official request from GoP for such materials as long as they carry the BBC logo. There is a Quaid-i-Azam Papers Project in the Archives Section of the Cabinet Division headed by an elderly gentleman. Will Asma volunteer to seek his support for this noble cause. We need to show these videos to our children and grand-children so that they are not misled by self-seeking individuals.
