Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has recently released the university rankings of Pakistan. The rankings are generating so much interest that I am receiving four to five emails daily with people forwarding me the same link to HEC’s ranking web page. (Scroll down to see rankings and details).
I am kind of disappointed with my alma-mater, NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi, ranked at number 10 out of the 13 Engineering Universities of Pakistan. The photo to the right-below shows few views of NED University.
I genuinely and of course with a little bias think that NED university should have been ranked among the top 3. When I make such claim; I do it on the basis of sheer engineering talent I’ve personally seen at NED. But rankings do not take into account the student talent. They look at finances, faculty, number of students etc. My university mates as well as the university officials have already started the discussion on how to improve the rankings next year. This discussion is going on at many NED online alumni groups. I am sure similar discussions are going on within other university alumni too. This I think, is a positive sign of publishing a list like this as it does create competition.

I don’t know about other universities or colleges but I and other NEDians can provide some guidance to prospective students on NED University. Do visit the official website of the university here. There is also an active blog on NED where you can get latest news about university and alumni. It is located here
If you need discussion with the NED alumni, then you can join one of the discussion forums here. There is an NED alumni listing at Wiki here. There is also an NED group at LinkedIn.com for Networking. It is located here.
I hope alumni from other universities will also post information for the help of prospective students.
hello
The university of lahore is said to be in the 500 top universities of the world but this is not the truth because if you want to see the real world ranking of the universities then VISIT http://www.webometrics.info on which u can see the ranking of the universities for where u come to that there is no Pakistani university in that Ranking
It’s sad to see no public universities whatsoever in the top list, anyhow another sad factor which has poisoned the job market in Pakistan is the fact that for instance if a manager of a good company has studied from IBA or FAST he/she will prefer to recruit graduates from those universities “only” and this culture slowly grows up to the height that you will find every individual graduating from a certain university going in and getting hired easily to a particular company which is popular for developing this kind of culture for the respective university graduates.

What about the other Universities in Private sector. The private sector Universities charge much than the expectation of the students, whereas the public sector university can’t absorbe the students who want to get higher education.
The government should direct the Universities in private sectors to charge fee not more than the public sector universities.
I think in Pakistan there is nobody to listen the request of common man, who is suffering from decades. On the other hand the culture of nepotism and favouritism also deprive the common man of its rights.
HEC should also direct the private sector Universities to imporove their standard and provide facilities to the students who spend million of rupees of geting Higher education.
There is another duty of HEC to scrutiny the Universities in the private sector and rank them according to their standard of education.
