Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has recently released the university rankings of Pakistan. The rankings are generating so much interest that I am receiving four to five emails daily with people forwarding me the same link to HEC’s ranking web page. (Scroll down to see rankings and details).

I am kind of disappointed with my alma-mater, NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi, ranked at number 10 out of the 13 Engineering Universities of Pakistan. The photo to the right-below shows few views of NED University.

I genuinely and of course with a little bias think that NED university should have been ranked among the top 3. When I make such claim; I do it on the basis of sheer engineering talent I’ve personally seen at NED. But rankings do not take into account the student talent. They look at finances, faculty, number of students etc. My university mates as well as the university officials have already started the discussion on how to improve the rankings next year. This discussion is going on at many NED online alumni groups. I am sure similar discussions are going on within other university alumni too. This I think, is a positive sign of publishing a list like this as it does create competition.

XYZ, I agree with whatever you said about Iqra University. Unfortunately, this is restricted to just IU, but is being practiced at many other private institutes, which proves to be equally lucrative for both institutes as well as for teachers. Institutes gain through extra fees for the semester and courses that students would have to undertake, and teachers through encouraging students to take private tuitions from the same teachers who have been failing them deliberately.

Now this is the direct outcome of lack of implementation of educational policy and the control by the educational authorities to keep a check on universities to ensure that a certain level of standard is achieved.

  4. Sadia says:

Well, i would like to include that ” Iqra University ” never deserve to be in this good rankings , there must be a complete interview from the students to be taken from HEC, so they would come to know the problems students are facing.

    * They started failing students to generate revenue.

    * Totally a sick management of Iqra University

    * Totally weak Administration and no Management. Even they teaching us management courses but they dont even have their own setup management.

    * Faisal K. Qureshi replies no quries for students to help. He just have one answer “Its a University Policy we cant help”
These teachers should be banned who dont have any strength to help students and acquiring high position in the University.

    * Tentative results and even Tentative Exam Schedules

    * No University pannel includes in events to watch up whats going on

    * the best teacher of “Supply Chain Management” named Mr.Haneef Memon is terminated from the University just because he had a class in Auditorium and they setup the Movie night at the same time and same day Haneef Memon has a class. When Haneef Memon talked in this issue that the class is more important, They terminated him as well. Other then that we bared a big loss in this subject. Other teacher that joined in the middle was an Engineer. He has no knowledge about Supply Chain Management.

    * Teachers are Pathetic now, they dont teach well and started failing students, they usually setup criteria from the starting to fail up to 70% students.

*Events Organized by LIPTON. BBA students are chosen as volunteers and they cheated in Event. They favour in Auditions to BBA students and friends. That Happened in LIPTON BATTLE, you can see the upcoming program will be telecast on Channels, the bands from IQRA UNIVERSITY performed Pathetic, as they selected bands in favoritism even auditions were taken 2nd time because of Cheats and a university pannel ” Miss Rabia” was there in the pannel to setup for auditions but the same bands were selected. ” Again Cheating Done”

    * They started Suspending students for no reasons to generate revenue , they “FINE” students

    * And many other problems faced by students

Well there should be a criteria setup by HEC that if 30 to 40% students started failing in the desired subject then there must be a warning letter to be issued to the Teacher else he should be terminated from the university. Because if 40% of the students are failing then the teacher is the one who is not teaching good and making problems for the students and generating revenue. More the students fails more the revenue generated.

HEC should organize the specfic criteria for students to whom Iqra University Fails. There must be Rs. 200 to the ones who are giving the failed papers. Because most of the MBA students do job and they try their level best ,but teacher fails for no reasons so there should be no Heavy amount of Fees to be taken in order to repeat the course or subject in which the student fails.

There must be the best administration to be chosen, the most professional administration in every university, and it has to be strictly prohibited that there will be no jobs for Iqra University Students in the University, Its because,I revealed from some resources that Iqra University do Cheats and started passing the failed students if the students gives money to concerned people in the Iqra University.

There are other problems ,even other many problems the students facing from Iqra University. And will come up soon again from Interviewing more students.

Hope HEC should take actions in this account.

    Thanking you,

    Iqra University Student
    XYZ

  5. Raja Masood says:

university means not only study but research as well. We have a big problem to face. many teachers of university assumes that they have to teach only which is very wrong. Infact the universities must be ranked on the basis of research only. HEC must keep an account on the basis of Number of Ph.D holders, Post Doc, Research Scholars and status of students.
