A business in Malir, Saudabad (Karachi) is selling working Computers by weight. The ad guarantees Pentium IV microprocessor PCs available in 10 or 15 kilogram versions.

The first line of the ad reads:

save thousands of rupees. Buy computers by weight

Main text in red reads:

Pentium IV Computers (available) at Rupees 399 [approx. US$6] per kilogram only

Does it show abundance of PC hardware in Pakistan? or is the country fast becoming a dumping ground for old PCs from rest of the world.

These are imported by Pakistani people in containers and not being dumped by faceless corporations.

On one hand it is good that we have cheaper computers due to this for everyone. On another hand we have problem of being a dumping ground, but we can recycle some parts since some even contain minute amounts of gold and other metals.

What we choose to do is our choice.

  2. every free trade is possibly seen in pakistan this is our root cause of local industry collapse instead of putting our people we are putting them to upload like animals these genius brains of pakistanis are un-matchable but a plant always demands & deserves for water & nutrients to grow.

Roots of the tree pakistan are strong as one can see the face of it’s gardner Muhammad Ali Jinnah after which there is no other source to approach history of pakistan.

Salam Pakistan & it’s brave people.

This is probably dump, hazardous waste as Anwar said.
With the typical weight of a computer being several kilos, this is not quite a bargain, esp if the computer is not operational. After all, the OLPC organization (one Laptop per Child) and a few other initiatives are working to provide new laptop computers with software (and networking and a few other gizmos relevant to developing countries) for $100.

Are they in working condition. If they are then they can be put to use. I am sure lost of people do buy them to use it, maybe after repair.
